Ramblings cut out of my original Profile

Originally it was too long so I cut it off & stuck it here:

"Judge not, and ye shall not be judged"(Luke 6:37) As William Blake said, “I see a world in a grain of sand and a heaven in a wild flower.” Essentially, I do a lot of thinking of what I, we, everyone is doing/not doing and I'd like to find someone to share my/our thoughts and aspirations with.

I don't do hunting but I have done a lot of shooting(pistol and rifle, in and out of the military) and I've done snorkeling recently but I haven't done scuba since 1990 in the Puget Sound area. The 2 years I lived in Hawaii were some of the finest in my life. I saw my favorite scene ever - in Hanalei Bay, ran a marathon and met some of my favorite people there.

If you study Ps 37:25, Eccl 10:19, I Tim 6:10, and Matt 10:16 you will see what I think about life and money. The topic for many discussions.

Partial Genealogy on Mom's side

I'm Richard Mangonon Bernal, son of Jaime Almoite Bernal & Felicidad Ligaspe Mangonon(her maiden name). Unfortunately I don't speak any Filipino languages like Tagalog, Ilocano or Pangasinan. My sister, Linda Bernal Weidkamp, is doing some genealogy. My mom was born in barrio Babasit, Manaoag, Pangasinan and my dad from Ordaneta City, Pangasinan. My dad was born Irinio Jaime Bernal Almoite and changed his name to Jaime Bernal in Boston, Massachusetts in 1946. Felicidad's(my mom's) dad was Paulino Mangonon who married Alejandra Ligaspe and Paulino's dad was Silvestine Mangonon who married his 2nd wife Tomasa Pascua in 1870. What's fascinating is that Tomasa's dad was Acedo Pascua who married Leonarda Mangonon!! There's that Mangonon again. But Alejandra's parents were Jacinto Ligaspe and Filomena Doriches(spelling?) and her dad Jacinto's parents were Salvador Ligaspe and Rafaela Pascua!! And there's that Pascua again.
Two questions of note: Who was Silvestine's first wife? And who were his parents?
I just contacted another possible relative, James Christopher Nuto Mangonon, whose grandfather, Atty. Fidel Mangonon, was the former mayor of Manaoag, Pangasinan. His dad, Juanito Mangonon, was a fifth child and James is the first of five children.
So our genealogy has some twists and turns and if you have any connection or information(names and dates) to solidify any of that I would be extremely appreciative and of course I'd pass it along to the family because the Mangonon side is of great interest to us. I have a Facebook friend, Melchor Mangonon, whose father is Nimitz(that's right, named after the American Admiral) Mangonon, and he happens to be related to me somehow.

Wonderful words I've come across

Here is a nice site with apparently nice words of wisdom: http://jlfoundation.net/pebble-in-the-water.html

I just had to interject that before I forgot it. Today I'm mentioning some poems that I've come across that have made me feel good. It goes without saying that I find joy in the psalms and proverbs of the Holy Bible but in this blog I'm mentioning words from mere mortals(though the words verge on the legendary).

Of course there's that "Go placidly..." poem referred to as "Desiderata"

Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant, they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love, for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is perennial as the grass.

Take kindly to the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.

Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

In fact, there is much discourse as to the origin of that poem. It is said that the poem was found in a Baltimore church in 1692 and is centuries old, of unknown origin. Written around 1920 (although some say as early as 1906), and certainly copyrighted in 1927, by lawyer Max Ehrmann (1872-1945) based in Terre Haute,Indiana. The myth began after Reverend Frederick Kates included the poem in a collection of inspirational works in 1959 on church notepaper. The work was titled: 'The Old St Paul's Church, Baltimore, AD 1692'. The date was the year the church was founded. The myth grew when a copy of the erroneously attributed Desiderata was found at the bedside of deceased politician Aidlai Stevenson in 1965. When I was in college in the early 70's it was on numerous walls in students' residences.

Then there's the start of "Auguries of Innocence" by William Blake.

To see a world in a grain of sand,
And a heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,
And eternity in an hour.

And it goes on for four pages then ends:

God appears, and God is light,
To those poor souls who dwell in night;
But does a human form display
To those who dwell in realms of day.

You will note of course that I've used the first two lines in my profile.

And finally, if you didn't already go to the site mentioned at the beginning of this post, here is a poem attributed to John Phillip Meakin although I've seen it said to be from St. Augustine. Here goes:

IF any little word of mine

May make a life the brighter,
If any little song of mine

May make a heart the lighter,
God help me speak the little word

And take my bit of singing,
drop it in some lonely vale

To set the echoes ringing.

If any little love of mine

May make a life the sweeter,
If any little care of mine

May make a friend's the fleeter,
If any lift of mine may ease

The burden of another,
God give me love and care and strength

To help my toiling brother.

Since it's not assured who the author is I don't know it's title. How that got attributed to St. Augustine I don't know but I do remember reading it on a greeting card with a nice nature photo and it did indicate John Phillip Meakin.

So that's it for this Friday. Have a great weekend. Study your Sunday school lesson and be kind to your mother.

Ghost EVP in recent Rose House Cafe video? What is it?

Wow!!! I was just reviewing a video taken on Monday and I was wondering about some "whispering" sound. I learned that it could be Electronic Voice Phenomena(EVP) which is quite active on the net. I will try to explain what I heard on this video taken during lunch at the Rose House Cafe.

10th second: male - "...and I care, I care. She just got the chill..."
16th second: male(same voice?) - "...she got H I? V(or B)"
19th second: female - "...I'm not in..."

Maybe these are not the exact words but without technical equipment to check this out I can only turn up the volume during playback on my PC. I'm not a believer in ghosts because my faith in Jesus Christ is beyond reproach but I do like explanations to whatever I experience. However, be warned: Leviticus 19:31 and 20:6; Deuteronomy 18: verses 9-14; I Samuel 28th chapter; I Chronicles 10:13; Isaiah 19:3 and 29:4 are all referencing the evil of familiar spirits.

Any findings from any further investigation would be appreciated. But like I said, maybe further research might not be warranted or should not be speculated.

I noticed that if you google "evp investigations, familiar spirits" THIS blog is on the second page! But if you include "EVP video" to that list it's on the first page.

Where I've Lived

I have lived in the Philippines from birth (Aug '54) until '59. Then my dad moved us to Aurora, CO. After Kennedy was assassinated we moved to Frankfurt a.M., Germany in December '63. We traveled all over Europe then moved back to the U.S in June '66. My dad was stationed at Ft. Lewis in Tacoma, WA and he knew he was going to his third war, in Vietnam. After college I moved to Anchorage, AK in '77 then to Honolulu, HI in '80 after a couple months at home(Tacoma) during which time our mountain(St. Helens) blew. After that ash got in my eyes my best friend, Jimmy, and I already had tickets to Hawaii, so off we went on that memorial day monday May 25th.
After a glorious 2 years I returned to Pullman, WA to get my degree out of the way. But after 5 years they had changed the requirements on me. So even though I was about 5 credits short of my degree I had to take 9 upper division Humanities credits to end up with a General Humanities degree - Bachelor of Humanities. But the Navy, looking at an aspiring naval aviator, didn't need a professional degree. Just ANY degree. So off to Pensacola, FL and as an ensign returning from a summer at NAS Barbers Point(in the Commander's Office - Commodore Geck) I ended up in flight training at Milton, FL - Training Wing 3.
No thanks to "An Officer And A Gentleman" coming out that summer, everybody and their brother signed up to go to NASC to see Debra Winger. And with the best of the best on station, even instrument-rated pilots weren't able to keep up with the curve, so little ol' me, who's gotta study super hard as it is - Well, I attrited after my 3rd instrument simulator and never got my wings. So the Navy sent me eventually to NAS Whidbey Island.
After numerous jobs I moved to Las Vegas, NV in January '05. But I returned to Tacoma in November '07. And here I still am. With a passport in my backpack in case the opportunity should arise.
